We are looking for a Senior System Administrator will be able to directly support the operations of development computing environments as a Linux System Administrator and/or a Unix System Administrator. These activities will include system installation, configuration, integration, maintenance, performance management, data management, security management, failure analysis and recovery, and user support.

Candidate must be team oriented and be able to directly support the operations of 170+ servers and integrity of the Test and Development computing environments (large site), as a Linux System Administrator within a large System Administration Group. These activities will include system installation, configuration, integration, maintenance, performance management, data management, security management, failure analysis and recovery, and user support. Candidate will also support the following networks: ATM, 10/100/1000, HiPPI, NAS, SAN, Fiber Channel, NUMA Link and associated internetworking devices (FORE, CISCO, McData, and Essential).

Must be on call 24/7/365 to support a fast paced and dynamic environment and able to travel with short notice. Need to have applied knowledge in configuring internal systems such as routers, switches, firewalls and other security appliances. Applied knowledge of data communication systems including hardware, software and applications. Experience in using basic network devices like packet sniffers. Practical knowledge of all layers of the OSI network model and TCP/IP protocol suite. Applied knowledge of WAN and LAN technologies.

MUST POSSESS OR BE ABLE TO TRANSFER A GOVERNMENT SECURITY BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION FOR ACCESS TO CLASSIFIED INFORMATION.

Requirements:
Must have the following:

  1. 5-7 yrs of direct experience as a Linux System Administrator and or a combination as a Network Administrator.
  2. Highly competent with networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure ATM, HiPPI, Ethernet, TCP/IP, NFS and other related technologies (e.g. IEEE 802.1q, 802.1w, 802.3ad), can perform network analysis, fault isolation, and understand routing concepts.
  3. Capable of most Linux systems administration task (e.g. configuration of mail systems, system installation and configuration, printing systems, fundamentals of security, installing third-party software).
  4. A solid understanding and working knowledge of a Linux-based operating system; understanding paging and swapping, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, file system concepts, and able to use performance analysis to tune systems.
  1. Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure NFS and LDAP, can use nslookup or dig to check information in the DNS, understands basic routing concepts.

  2. Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (Tk, Perl, a shell).
  3. Ability to solve problems at both the OS and hardware level.
  4. Experience installing/configuring peripherals (for example, disks, modems, printers, or data acquisition devices).
  5. Familiarity with board-level diagnosis and repair of computer systems.
  6. Strong inter-personal and communication skills; capable of writing proposals or papers, acting as a vendor liaison, making presentations to customer or client audiences or professional peers, and working closely with upper management.
  1. Working knowledge of NFS, LDAP, TCP/IP, DNS/BIND, DHCP, Sendmail, Veritas NetBackup, Networker and disk quotas.

Preferences:

  1. BS/Technical discipline and a minimum of 4+ years of direct experience or a combination of 7 years of education and direct experience.
  1. One or more of the following certifications: RHCE, CCNA, CCDA, CCNP, CCDP, CCIE, Solaris/LINUX or a creditable UNIX certification.
